2021 New Year's Resolution: Eat Better.

No, we're not dieting. We are going to eat better food. We are going to savor every bite. We're going to hit the specialty shops. We're going to take to the kitchen with really good ingredients and we are going to support local businesses as we do it. No national chains. No celebrity endorsements. Just local experts who are passionate about food.

With that, we are starting with Italian food since we don't have an Italian district in LA. There are four really good specialty markets serving up authentic food, wine and ingredients from the old country.

Bay Cities Italian Deli

Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery is your one-stop shop for freshly made Italian food and groceries. Try one of our delicious baked dinners with hot rolls or pick up a block of gourmet cheese and a bottle of imported wine.

Guidi Marcello Ltd.

From Italian wines, to pasta to cheese to olive oil to olives, we import a wide array of specialty gourmet Italian products. Guidi Marcello left Tuscany in 1945 to start the business and his son moved it to Santa Monica in 1981. Most of their business is wholesale, but it's worth seeking them out in this warehouse-heavy area to get the good stuff in their showroom.

Domenico's

Domenico's sells products to top-rated restaurants and hotels in Los Angeles. You can also find them at various Farmers Markets and retail shops in the area. Dominick DiBartolomeo personally visits Italy often to find small producers who make exceptional products not widely available in the United States.

Sorrento Italian Market

Sorrento Italian Market is a Culver City institution that has been owned and operated by the Vera family for over 50 years. Sorrento Italian Market is a family-run Italian Deli and Market. While specializing in Italian deli fare, groceries, wines, and kitchen accessories, there is also a broad selection of products from other countries around the world and the USA.

So you can nix that trip to Eataly and support Guidi, Domenico, Albert, Hector, and all the families who keep these businesses alive and contribute to our wonderful West Side.
