7 Great Westside Neighborhoods for Trick or Treating

Trick or Treat!

Halloween is a great time of year in Southern California. That slight nip in the air is just enough to signal fall without the need to cover a great costume with a heavy coat.

For those of you who are new here, in Los Angeles and Southern California, we trick or treat on October 31st, no matter what day of the week it happens to be, although we’re all happiest when it falls on a Friday or Saturday. Since Halloween 2022 is on a Monday, Trick or Treating generally starts around 6:00pm and ends by 8:30pm.

We love staying home and seeing the parade of costumed kids as they stop in and ring the bell, but we also love a good Trick or Treat trip. Here are seven great neighborhoods (in no particular order) on the Westside to see fantastic decorations and score some candy.

Brentwood

Brentwood Glen: South of Sunset and west of the 405 lies a cute little walkable neighborhood that is the perfect place to introduce little ones to the holiday.

Brentwood /Santa Monica: Start at Brentwood Country Mart and head west into Santa Monica. It's another great little neighborhood to Trick or Treat.

Santa Monica

There is plenty of trick-or-treating to be had all over Santa Monica, and wonderfully decorated houses heading north on almost any street from Montana. Be sure to check out 16th and Georgina. It is off the hook.

Venice Canals

Residents here have a reputation for going all out for the holiday. They dress up their homes and themselves for the occasion. Parking is a pain, but totally worth the effort.

Beverly Hills

Walden Drive and Carmelita is the place to start at the ever-wonderful "Beverly Hills Witches House," AKA The Spadena House. The storybook house, known for its fanciful, intentionally dilapidated design, was built for Willat Studios in the 20s and was used as a set for silent films like Hansel and Gretel.

Windsor Square (Larchmont and Hancock Park Area)

This area runs from Wilshire to Beverly, from Arden to Van Ness (including the mayor's mansion), and is quite the Halloween scene. Expect lots of company enjoying the decorations and abundance of treats.

Culver City

The homes in the neighborhood around Veterans Park and Culver High School are decked out for the season, and just across Ballona Creek, around Lindberg Park, is equally as delightful.

Cheviot Hills

Start on Motor and head into the neighborhood for and treats. There are a couple of homes that have taken the decor over the top. Check out the webs and witches over one particular home on Danalda.
